     The more I read Roseanna M. White's novels, the more I'm sure she's becoming one of my favorite Christian fiction writers. She takes a lot of the stereotypical elements in Christian and romantic fiction and refashions them in new, dynamic ways so that they work without coming off as cheesy or cliched. (which I think I've mentioned in one of my reviews of her books before, but I guess it's worth saying again) However, she also throws in loads of unique  material and ideas that are also supported by interesting and lively characters. A Song Unheard brings together a wonderful combination of elements that all converge in the early days of the first world war: music, spies, Belgian refugees, and cryptology.

     I didn't like A Song Unheard one as much as A Name Unknown, but then...that one is hard to beat. This one was a little more romance-heavy, and I personally didn't find the faith theme as compelling as I wanted to, but overall it was still a good book--and I especially loved how one character who was so clearly going to be the bad guy at the beginning was shown to be so much more complex. I was also really excited to get more time with Rosemary and Willa's brother Barclay, especially since he's getting his own book next. I'm already impatiently waiting for it!

The Words We Lost Nicole Deese Bethany House Publishers I truly had no idea how much I would enjoy this book when I picked it up. My relationship with contemporary fiction is rocky, but I'm so glad I took a chance on this one. Upon reflection, I think what really makes or breaks a contemporary book for me is the voice and writing style- and Nicole Deese passed that test with flying colors. Speaking of my past with contemporary fiction, grief seems a common denominator in the last several that I have read, and I think this one landed the best and most true for me, without being overwhelming in its depiction. After reading this, I'm not only looking forward to the next book in this series, but exploring this author's previous works as well. (and a heads up that though there is a lovely romance in this book, I wouldn't say that it is as heavily featured/relied on as the series title might suggest).
